We believe that creativity should be at the centre of teaching and learning, enabling and inspiring all children to learn and contribute. We have a strongly inclusive ethos, and believe that the inclusion of children with special educational needs is of benefit to the whole school community. Partnership with others supports learning throughout the school, and begins with building positive partnerships with parents and with each other. We have good international links, having taken part in Comenius projects with schools in Portugal, France, Italy, Finland, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Guadelope, Iceland, Greenland, Greece, Cyprus and Spain.

The school is currently in a soft federation with Rotherhithe Primary School. The Executive Head Teacher of both schools is Galiema Amien-Cloete.

What is a ‘soft federation’?

A soft federation is an interim measure where two schools work closely together to ensure rapid and sustained progress in all areas of the school. Rotherhithe Primary School has expertise in improving standards, raising attainment and progress for all pupils, improving quality of teaching and learning and ensuring a learning environment that reflects a happy and cohesive place for learning.

Why did the governing body of Dog Kennel Hill Primary School consider a soft federation?

  • The school’s data from previous years is inconsistent (especially the 2013 outcomes for KS1 and KS2). Data analysis reveals that some key groups of children were not doing as well as they should and there hasn’t been a steady trend of improvement for these groups across the school;
  • Teaching and Learning was variable across the school which meant that the children were not consistently receiving high quality teaching input in all classes;
  • Last year, leadership capacity within the school was not strong enough and needed developing;
  • Efforts last year to recruit a substantive head teacher were unsuccessful;
  • The school’s key areas for improvement given in the last Ofsted report have not been met over the last three years.
  • Ofsted is imminent and due to all of the above, the school is vulnerable. Hence, a soft federation was entered into.

Since the decision was taken, a lot has changed at our school, in a short time. If you would like to find out more or see for yourself, please phone the office to make an appointment to visit the school.

We would love to see you.
