Black History Month begins today and although our curriculum reflects diversity every month, we feel it is also important to celebrate Black History Month. The theme this year is Proud to Be and at DKH we are celebrating the fact that we are Proud to Be Me. Each year group will be celebrating Black History Month by focusing on an aspect of BAME achievements so that a wealth of experiences are taught and learnt across the school. Homework projects will also reflect this, allowing the whole family to get involved. Additional workshops and special activities are being arranged and we can’t wait to share more with you.
On Tuesday, 12 October children will be encouraged to dress in clothing that celebrates and represents their culture or nationality. On that day children will be swapping classrooms and working with other teachers where they will focus on Black artists. There will be a special lunch menu that day. On the 19th of October, KS2 will take part in an All around the World music workshops. Weather permitting, they will perform in the playground at the end of the day.
