It’s Science Week and what a busy, exciting, Scientific week we are all having! This afternoon we joined Maple Class who again using bubbles are conducting a very interesting experiment timing how long a bubble lasts before it pops depending on what you add to the initial or “Control” mixture.
The experiment started with a particular mixture that everyone in the class used. This is called the “Control Mixture”. The children then split into teams and each team were given a specific additive for their control mixture. The additives were Sugar, Soap, and Water. The children then started to add the additives in pre-determined amounts to the control mixture. For sugar it was one spoon full, for Soap, again one spoon full, and for water, 50ml.
Once added and well mixed, the groups would then time how long their bubbles lasted under these new conditions and recorded their findings. The experiment then progressed to introduce another spoonful for sugar and soap, and another 50ml of water for a re-test until each group had added three spoonful’s or a maximum 150ml of water for their three tests under each condition.
We took some pictures of our scientists in action, which can be seen in the gallery below. Please click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
