How we assess children
Dog Kennel Hill Primary School have recently invested in a new assessment tool called ‘Target Tracker’. This tool allows us to track children’s progress and attainment across core areas of the National Curriculum in EYFS, key stage 1 and key stage 2. It assists teachers in assessing whether pupils are meeting national expectations.
Target Tracker provides teachers with objectives lifted directly from the National Curriculum for each core subject. Pupils are regularly assessed against these objectives allowing teachers to identify gaps and plan individualised programmes of support.
In order to secure teacher judgements, pupils are assessed formally at the end of each term. The school use ‘Rising Stars Assessment – Optional Tests’ in Years 1 -6. In key stage 2, pupils complete these under test conditions. This helps to prepare pupils for Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) which pupils are required to sit during the summer term of Year 6.
