DKH Primary School were very lucky in having local Artist Tanya Harris join us again this week for more amazing art workshops with the children. This week, Tanya worked with both Year 6 and Year 2 children.
For Year 6 and for the build up to the forthcoming Asian Week, we looked at movie artwork, in this case inspired by the Japanese Classic “Spirited Away. In this animated feature by noted Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, 10-year-old Chihiro (Rumi Hiiragi) and her parents (Takashi Naitô, Yasuko Sawaguchi) stumble upon a seemingly abandoned amusement park. After her mother and father are turned into giant pigs, Chihiro meets the mysterious Haku (Miyu Irino), who explains that the park is a resort for supernatural beings who need a break from their time spent in the earthly realm, and that she must work there to free herself and her parents.
For Year 2, the children looked at famous impressionist Vincent Van Gogh and his amazing works. Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In a period of 10 years, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.
We have collated a small gallery below outlining some of the fantastic work done by both year groups.
