On Friday, we celebrated Black History Month with an Art Day! We have been learning about the lives of inspirational Black British people throughout this month. It’s a fantastic reminder for every school across the UK to celebrate the lives of Black people. However, we know that it is important to always learn about Black people’s lives and achievements across our Curriculum and throughout the whole year.
For our Art Day, every Teacher prepared a lesson for every class. They looked at several Black artists, learned about their lives and replicated their artwork, such as:
- Reception looked at Frank Bowling.
- Year 1 and Year 3 looked at artwork using Black identity imagery.
- Year 2 explored Lakwena Maciver.
- Year 4 looked at both Donald Rodney and Chris Ofilli.
- Year 5 explored Stephen Wiltshire.
- Year 6 Maple looked at Lubaina Himid.
- Year 6 Oak looked at Keith Piper.
A massive thank you to Mr Darren Lalchan and Ms Marie Kelly-Roberts for organising such an incredible day!
