This term, Beech class have been studying Ancient Egypt as part of their History topic. They have been looking at how the Ancient Egyptians were so advanced in their technology for their time. They were master builders, philosophy pioneers, great writers and story tellers using their ancient form of writing known as hieroglyphics.
Creating our own Papyruses
This week, the class has been making Papyrus. Papyrus is a material prepared in ancient Egypt from the pithy stem of a water plant, used in sheets throughout the ancient Mediterranean world for writing or painting on and also for making articles such as rope. You can see some of their amazing work below.

Egyptian God Top Trumps
The Ancient Egyptians worshipped a number of Gods who all had specific powers. To help us better understand these powers and which Gods were stronger than others, our talented children have created some “Top Trump Cards” to play against eachother. Take a look at some of our children having a game below.
Ancient Egyptian Zines
We ended our Ancient Egyptian workshop today by making our own miniature zines, which we then populated with an Ancient Egyptian subject of our choice. A zine (pronounced ‘zeeen’, like the end of magazine), is a self published booklet made from 1 or 2 pieces of paper.
Zines or ‘fanzines‘ originated through letter-writing, and people sharing information with each other about things they were passionate about. To help you better understand how to make one, here is a simple guide so that you can join us in making your very own zine at home.
Why not give it a try?

Here is a gallery of our children as they design and build their very own zine. They did a fantastic job. It can be a little fiddly!
