On Sunday 12th November, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains worldwide celebrated Diwali. In this video, our Nursery children are talking about Diwali and what they know of this festival.
About Diwali:
Diwali, or Dipawali, is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
Diwali celebrates the victory of Lord Krishna’s destruction of the demon Naraka who is said to have imprisoned women and tormented his subjects. The festivities that run for five days are characterised by bright lights, burning incense and sumptuous meals; especially sweets.
