Year 5 have started the New Year off with some exciting learning. You can see just some of what they have been doing, below.
In a very topical science lesson, Year 5 investigated hand washing. In the lesson, children discussed the importance of washing hands. They investigated how quickly bacteria would grow on bread with different variables. The children touched slices of bread before placing them into sealed bags.
As a class, they predicted the growth of bacteria. With 1 having the greatest growth of bacteria and 5 having the smallest growth of bacteria.
1. Dirty hands
2. Sanitised hands
3. Unwashed hands
4. Washed hands
5. Untouched
Do you agree with their predictions? Why or why not?
In English children started a comparison of text and film. They began by reading and watching the story The Little Match Girl. They discussed and compared differences and similarities between the film and the story. They used drama to retell the story of the Little Match Girl by working in groups to act out different parts of the story. The use of hot seating allowed children to understand the thoughts and feelings of the Little Match Girl.
In Maths, the use of practical resources allowed children to represent and develop their conceptual understanding of fractions.
