This week, Rowan Class have been reading Zoo By Anthony Browne. One of several books based on Anthony Browne’s childhood memories, Zoo won the Kate Greenaway Award in 1993, and justifiably remains a source of reflection and debate for all ages. The family visit the zoo, where they display behaviour which mirrors that of some of the animals, but where it also becomes apparent that the animals are equally unhappy. Browne’s distinctive illustrations can be read even more deeply than the text, providing extensive insights into his views on captive animals, bars and cages.
The children then created their own artistic interpretations of the key animals in the book. Please click on the thumbnails below for a larger view.
